According to the ancient story of Indra Dev and the Siddhi-Bhavya Purana, there was a fierce battle between the gods and the demons. Lord Indra - the Gods, the rain, and the Vajra of the heavens, who were fighting on the side of the Gods, powerful demon kings were making tough resistance from Bali. The war continued for a long time and did not come until the end. Seeing this, he went to Indra's wife Sachi Lord Vishnu who gave him a sacred bracelet made of cotton yarn. Sachi made a sacred thread around the wrist of her husband Lord Indra, who ultimately defeated the demons and recovered Amravati.

These sacred threads were described in the first account of the festival as talisman who was used by women for prayer and when they were going out for war, they were bound by their husbands. Unlike the current time, they were not limited to the sacred threads of the siblings.

According to King Bali and Devi Lakshmi: Bhagwat Purana and Vishnu Purana, when Lord Vishnu won the three kings from the demon king, he asked the monster king to stay with them in the palace. The Lord accepted the request and started living with the monster king. However, Goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Lord Vishnu, wanted to go to her native place Vaikuntha. Therefore, he built a rakhi on the King of the King, Bali, and made him brother. On asking about the return gift, Goddess Lakshmi asked Bali to release her husband from fast and return to Vaikunth. Bali agreed on request and Lord Vishnu returned to his place with his wife Devi Lakshmi.

Santoshi Mother: It is said that Lord Ganesha's two sons were auspicious and frustrated that they had no sister. He asked his father for a sister who, after the intervention of Sant Narad, was finally bound to his sister. Thus Lord Ganesh created Santoshi's mother through divine flames and on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, two sons of Lord Ganesha received their sister.

Krishna and Draupadi:  Based on an article of the Mahabharata, Pandavas' wife, Draupadi, dedicated Lord Rakhi to Lord Krishna, while Kunti had given Rakhi Band to grandson Abhimanyu before the epic war.

Yama and Yamuna: Another legend says that the god of death, Yama did not visit his sister for the Yamuna for 12 years, which eventually became very sad. On the advice of the Ganga, Yama went to meet his sister the Yamuna, who is very happy and demonstrated the hospitality of her brother, Yama. Yuam was pleased with those who asked for a boon from the Yamuna. He expressed his desire to see his brother again and again. Upon hearing this, Yama made her sister, Yamuna immortal so that she could see him again and again. This mythological account is the basis of the festival called "Bhai Duj", which is also based on the relation of brother and sister.
