The monsoon sales season is about to begin. 60% off, 30% flat discount and with signboards to buy - one-of-a-kind free outside of stores selling fast moving consumer goods, textile stores, supermarkets, mobile phone stores and even high-end products. Not for shopping. However, before you go to the nearest mall, do basic math about how prices work and the tricks the store has to attract you.


Shoppers still use original and list prices as a reference to understand the value of a commodity and how well the selling price is. Furthermore, most shoppers are aware that stores regularly use fake, inflated prices to make it easier for customers to think that the inevitable discount is impressive. 

In other words, a 50% sale is the actual price, while the base price mentioned on the product is just a mythical figure that gives an incorrect assumption of the value of the item.
